South Essex Branch

The MND Association

Who are we?

The South  Essex Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association has the sole aim of serving all those in the area who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). We are an enthusiastic and committed group of local people who work together to provide emotional and practical support for people affected by MND, this includes people with MND, their carers, family and friends.

What is Motor Neurone Disease (MND) ?

MND affects more than 5,000 people in this country at any one time. It attacks the nerve cells responsible for muscle control. It stops people doing everyday things like walking, talking and eating. It leaves the intellect mainly unaffected. It is ultimately fatal within 2 - 5 years for the majority of people. At the moment there is no cure.

What does our Branch do?

We  liaise with health and social care professionals such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and the Medical Profession.

Our Branch holds regular support meetings for people living with MND and their carers. These provide an opportunity to meet with other people living with the disease, and to share experiences and ideas.

Fundraising and raising awareness are also very important aspects of Branch activities, and we organise several events throughout the year which are well supported.

South  Essex Branch is completely run by volunteers. We are always interested in hearing from people who can help with events or who want to get involved with running the Branch.
